Munster Rugby are set to lose one of their more explosive back-three options, with reports emerging that Thaakir Abrahams is closing in on a move away from the province, according to RugbyPass.
The South African flyer only arrived ahead of the 2024/25 campaign but looks set for a swift exit, with a return home now on the cards. URC rivals the Bulls are understood to be leading the race for his signature, with a deal reportedly agreed in principle.
Abrahams has shown glimpses of his quality during his time in red, offering serious pace and attacking threat across both the URC and Europe. Still just 26, the wing/full-back arrived with a strong reputation following spells with the Sharks and in France, and quickly became a useful option across the back three.
But despite that promise, his stint in Limerick now looks set to be cut short.
The move comes at a time when Munster are having to make increasingly tough calls around squad depth and spending, with financial pressures continuing to shape recruitment and retention across the provinces.
Losing a player of Abrahams’ profile — particularly one capable of producing moments out of nothing — will be a blow, even if he hasn’t fully nailed down a starting spot.
For the Bulls, meanwhile, it represents a smart piece of business. Bringing Abrahams back to South Africa adds further firepower to an already dangerous backline as they continue to build towards another push for silverware.
