Sonny Bill Williams is taking a break from Super Rugby this season to concentrate on sevens but there has been huge speculation about where his future lies after Rio 2016.
It’s been widely reported that he will not remain in New Zealand with a move back to the NRL with the Syndey Roosters touted as his next destination. Roosters coach, Brian Canavan stated he would welcome the two-time World Cup winner, “If Sonny decides to come back to rugby league, we’d love to be his club of choice.”
It now appears however that French giants Toulon are in pole position to land SBW, with La Provence reporting that the Top 14 side are in negotiations with the centre.
SBW previously played with Mourad Boudjellal’s team between 2008 and 2010 when he shockingly walked out on his NRL contract. A return to Toulon would not come as too much of a surprise and could see him link up with All Blacks compatriot Ma’a Nonu in a deadly midfield partnership.
