The Bulls have reportedly made an early move to bring Springbok star Malcolm Marx back to South Africa following his lengthy spell in Japan.
According to a report from RugbyPass, the Pretoria outfit have sounded out Marx over a potential switch to Loftus Versfeld when his current contract with Kubota Spears comes to an end next year.
No formal negotiations have taken place at this stage, with the Bulls understood to have simply made their interest known as they assess their options at hooker.
A move would see Marx reunited with Bulls boss Johan Ackermann, the man who handed him his Super Rugby debut for the Lions against the Crusaders back in 2014.
Marx subsequently established himself as one of the world’s leading players in the position before leaving South Africa for Japan in 2020. He initially joined Urayasu D-Rocks before moving to Kubota Spears the following year.
Marx’s potential availability is understandably attracting attention. The double World Cup winner was crowned World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year for 2025 and remains a hugely influential member of Rassie Erasmus’ Springbok squad.
Should Ackermann eventually convince Marx to return home, he would add considerable competition to a Bulls hooking department which already includes Johan Grobbelaar, Juann Else and Juandré Schoeman.
