“It was the most terrifying moment of my entire life – Mack Hansen reveals all on Tommy Tiernan show

Debut.

Ireland and Connacht winger Mack Hansen made a surprise appearance on Irish television over the weekend, as he continues his recovery from injury.

Hansen went under the knife last year to rectify a longstanding foot problem and appeared as a special guest on the Tommy Tiernan show over the weekend.

The 27-year-old is out of action for the entire Six Nations, but recalled his Irish debut, calling it “the most terrifying moment” of his entire life.

Hansen now has 30 caps for Ireland, but he will never forget his first.

“It was the most terrifying moment of my entire life – by a country mile. Not even close,” Hansen said.

“Like one thing I pride myself on is catching high balls and I couldn’t catch a single one before the game.

“It just seemed it wasn’t going my way pre-match. So I was incredibly nervous. But it’s like anything, once the match started it goes back to being just another game of rugby.

“But over the whole lead-up across the whole week the guys had looked after me and that was incredible.

“But as soon as I got on the pitch for that warm-up I was thinking ‘Oh God am I a bit over my head here?’”
