Not good enough.
Lions star Liam Williams has revealed that the Ospreys told him as a youngster that there was no chance he would ever make it as a professional rugby player. Williams, who recently signed for Saracens from Scarlets, featured in all three Test for the Lions this summer.
At 26, he’s now one of the finest back-three players in the northern hemisphere.
“I was never picked up by an academy,” Williams told the Daily Mail.
“So I just went to work. Nothing was spoon-fed. The Ospreys said I’d never be good enough. They said, ‘Nah, I don’t think he’s going to make it’. That’s what they said… but look at me now.”
Williams was eventually picked up by the Scarlets after playing just one year for the Llanelli RFC semi-pro side. After a stunning debut season, he was called up to the Welsh national team just one year later.
