Leinster and Ireland flanker Josh van der Flier has had an operation on his injured ankle, which will rule him out for eight weeks.
He saw a specialist on Monday having sustained the injury in Leinster’s loss in the PRO12 to Ulster, and following further review it was decided that he needed surgery.
Van der Flier underwent the surgery on Tuesday and it was a success but he will be out for eight weeks and will miss next Friday’s Guinness PRO12 semi-final against Ulster at the RDS Arena and Ireland’s tour to South Africa.
