England prop Joe Marler has been cited for allegedly ‘striking an opponent’ in the victory over Wales at Twickenham – and will appear at a hearing later this week.Television footage showed the Harlequins loosehead driving a forearm into the face of Wales prop Rob Evans after Dan Cole had crashed over the line in the 15th minute of the RBS Six Nations encounter.
When Wales prop, Tomas Francis, was cited on Sunday for allegedly making contact with Cole’s eye – and James Haskell was given a citing commissioner warning for a dangerous ‘neck roll’ – it appeared that Marler had escaped further investigation for the incident but that is not the case.
