The Sharks are actively exploring the market for an experienced out-half ahead of next season, with overseas options now firmly on their radar.
According to Rapport, the Durban-based side are in discussions with two seasoned internationals — James O’Connor and Tommaso Allan — as they look to bring greater control and leadership to their attack.
O’Connor, now 35, is currently with Leicester Tigers after joining on a short-term deal last year, and would reportedly be available from July if a move materialises.
Allan, meanwhile, has been plying his trade with Perpignan and only recently signed a contract extension, though reports suggest he, too, could be released should the Sharks push to get a deal done.
The push for an experienced No.10 comes amid a growing need in that position. Jean Smith is set to depart for Benetton at the end of the current campaign, while Luan Giliomee is also reportedly on his way out, joining the Bulls.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Jordan Hendrikse, whose availability could be limited due to potential Springboks commitments.
While younger options like Vusi Moyo and Siya Masuku remain in the squad, head coach JP Pietersen is clearly keen to add a steady hand at fly-half — someone capable of dictating play and bringing structure to a side still searching for consistency.
