England flanker Jack Willis has been linked with a sensational move away from French giants Toulouse.
The 29-year-old has been one of the best flankers in Europe in recent seasons, but has been overlooked by England head coach Steve Borthwick as he plies his trade outside the English Premiership.
But it has emerged that Willis is eligible to make the switch to Ireland this year, having not represented England in almost three years.
Willis revealed that he is eligible for Ireland through his grandparents in 2023, but made it clear at the time that he and his brother, Tom, have always supported England.
“I am quarter-Irish. My grandad is from Northern Ireland so he’s fully Irish. But I’ve always grown up supporting England, my brother (Tom) the same,” Willis said.
“You are always looking into possibilities, you want to be playing international rugby but, for us, we see ourselves as English.”
But according to Jim Hamilton on The Rugby Pod, Munster are reportedly exploring a sensational move for Willis.
“There are rumours they’re adding to the squad. I can’t see it happening, and I don’t know where this guy has any Irish in him, but Jack Willis from Toulouse to Munster,” Hamilton said.
It seems like a stretch but stranger things have happened in sport.
