Munster Rugby have confirmed that Jack Crowley is not expected to return to action until the new year after being assessed by specialists over a lower limb vascular injury.
The province issued the significant injury update on Thursday as Clayton McMillan’s squad continue their preparations for the new season.
Crowley has undergone specialist assessment and, following medical advice, Munster do not expect the Ireland international to feature again during 2026.
“Jack Crowley has been assessed by specialists for a lower limb vascular injury and is not expected to return to action until the new year following medical advice,” a Munster statement read.
The news represents a major setback for both Munster and Ireland, with Crowley established as a key figure for club and country.
Munster Head Coach Clayton McMillan stressed that ensuring the 26-year-old makes a complete recovery will take priority over attempting to accelerate his return.
“Jack Crowley is a very important player for Munster and Ireland with a big future in the game and ensuring he gets back to 100% is the priority.”
His injury could also have significant implications for Ireland, with the November Nations Championship window falling inside his expected recovery period.
Munster do have options at No.10 during his absence, with JJ Hanrahan, alongside highly-rated Academy out-halves Tom Wood and Charlie O’Shea.
McMillan backed the trio to step up while Crowley continues his recovery.
“We have a good mix of experience and youth available in the out-half position with JJ Hanrahan and Academy men Tom Wood and Charlie O’Shea.”
For now, however, Munster’s priority is Crowley’s recovery, with one of their most important players facing an extended spell on the sidelines before potentially returning in 2027.
