Jack Conan injury update is bad news for Ireland and Leinster

Injury concern.

Leinster’s Champions Cup win over Clermont Auvergne came at a cost, with Leo Cullen expecting Jack Conan to spend time on the sidelines after suffering a shoulder injury.

The Ireland back-row left the field after scoring a second-half try in Saturday’s 48-23 victory in France.

Speaking afterwards, Cullen admitted the injury “didn’t look great”, with further assessment needed to establish its severity.

“He will be out for a little bit with that, I’d say. We’ll get the exact extent of that in the next week,” Cullen said.

The update is a worry for Leinster ahead of Saturday’s URC meeting with Munster at Aviva Stadium, while the timing is also concerning for Ireland.

Andy Farrell’s side are already set to be without captain Caelan Doris for November’s Nations Championship fixtures after a knee infection delayed his recovery from surgery.

Conan’s injury leaves Farrell facing uncertainty over another key number eight, although no precise recovery timeline has been confirmed.

There was, however, more encouraging news on Jamison Gibson-Park.

Cullen confirmed the scrum-half came through his training week “OK” and could return against Munster next Saturday, October 24.

Gibson-Park has been sidelined with a groin injury, but his potential return would provide a timely boost for both Leinster and Ireland.
