Australia may only be playing for pride today, with the Rugby Championship already wrapped up last week thanks to the All Blacks’ win over Argentina. But their fullback Israel Folau has everything to play for heading into tonight’s clash with Los Pumas.

The former rugby league star has returned to the kind of form in recent months, that saw him heralded as the best attacking fullback in rugby, with an incredible try-scoring run.

He’s now sensationally on track to break one of the most-prestigious records in international rugby. The Waratahs man is close to setting the world record for most Test tries in a calendar year.

He’s already after breaking the Australian record set by Lote Tuqiri 13 years ago, after bagging his 11th Test try of 2017 agains the Springboks, and now he needs just six more to equal the tallies of Japanese flyer Daisuke Ohata (2002) and legendary All Blacks winger Joe Rokocoko (2003).

Folau has five games to do so (Argentina, Japan, Wales, England and Scotland) and with a strike rate of more than a try a Test already this season, you wouldn’t bet against him.

With doubles against Fiji, Scotland and Italy in 2017, Folau is also the first Australian to cross twice in three successive Tests.
