Outhalf Johnny Sexton looks set to miss out on Ireland’s summer tour to South Africa.
According to today’s Irish Independent, Sexton has had surgery on a shoulder injury he picked up in the Guinness Pro12 final defeat to Connacht last weekend.
He suffered the injury in the first half of Saturday’s defeat, following tackles in quick succession from Tom McCartney and John Muldoon, but played on to finish the match.
However, the Irish Independent reports that he had surgery on the injury on Tuesday and will be out for around 12 weeks as a result.
Ian Madigan could be called up to the squad instead, with Joe Schmidt expected to confirm the news at a press conference later today.
