Round 2.
Ireland’s Six Nations injury picture has shifted again this week, with Bryn Ward recalled to the squad and Tadhg Furlong stepping up his return to full training.
Ward has been drafted back in after featuring for Ireland A against England A last weekend.
The bigger boost, however, comes in the shape of Furlong. The tighthead prop, who missed the opening round through injury, has now returned to full training with the squad.
A decision on his availability for the matchday 23 is expected later in the week.
Ireland head coach Andy Farrell will be encouraged by Furlong’s progress, with his presence offering a significant lift to the pack after a disrupted start to the championship.
With Italy arriving in Dublin full of confidence, Ireland’s focus now turns to final selection — and whether Furlong’s recovery comes in time to feature.
