Back in action.
Andy Farrell has named his Ireland team for Friday night’s Nations Championship clash with Argentina, with Craig Casey and Nick Timoney both selected to start at the Aviva Stadium.
Dan Sheehan captains the side for the November 6 encounter, which kicks off at 8.10pm, while Mack Hansen, Andrew Porter and Ryan Baird return to the starting XV.
Casey gets the nod at scrum-half ahead of Jamison Gibson-Park and partners Sam Prendergast, who takes his place at out-half following the recent concern over his fitness.
Timoney starts at openside flanker, with Josh van der Flier among the replacements, while Connacht’s Sean Jansen is handed the number eight jersey.
With Caelan Doris and Jack Conan unavailable, Jansen joins Baird and Timoney in the back row for Ireland’s opening match of the November series.
Hansen lines up on the left wing, with Robert Baloucoune on the right and Hugo Keenan completing the back three at fullback. Stuart McCloskey and Robbie Henshaw form the midfield partnership, with Bundee Aki providing cover from the bench.
Up front, Porter joins captain Sheehan and Tadhg Furlong in the front row, while Joe McCarthy partners Tadhg Beirne at lock.
Farrell has opted for a five-three split among the replacements, with Rónan Kelleher, Tom O’Toole and Sam Illo providing the front-row cover.
James Ryan and Van der Flier complete the forward replacements, while Gibson-Park, Ciaran Frawley and Aki offer the backline options.
Ireland begin their three-match home series against the Pumas before welcoming Fiji and South Africa to Dublin later this month.
