Here’s Why The Ireland Players Were Wearing Black Armbands Yesterday

Top class.

Ireland made it two wins from two in the Six Nations yesterday afternoon, with a 56-19 demolition of Italy at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Joe Schmidt’s men grabbed eight tries in total, with Robbie Henshaw and Jacob Stockdale grabbing a brace each, along with scores from Conor Murray, Rory Best, Bundee Aki and the ever impressive Keith Earls.

You also may have noticed the Irish players were wearing black armbands yesterday. This was done as a mark of respect to Ultan Dillane’s mother Ellen, who sadly passed away suddenly in her home this week.

The Ireland lock would likely have featured yesterday in the matchday squad if it were not for the tragic news. Our deepest condolences go out to Ultan and his family during this very difficult period.
