Job done.

Ireland got the job done this evening in Dublin, securing a bonus-point win in front of their home crowd, but Wales certainly made them work for it.

The men in green were huge favourites ahead of the fixture, but Steve Tandy’s side pulled out one of their best performances in recent memory to push Ireland all the way and make it a real contest.

But it certainly was a dip in performance after the highs of Twickenham, and this is reflected in the ratings.

1. Tom O’Toole – 7

A tighthead filling in at loosehead due to Ireland’s prop crisis, but he handled it well. Won an early scrum penalty, and aside from a knock-on during Conan’s disallowed try, it was a solid shift.

2. Ronan Kelleher – 7

Reliable at the lineout and tireless around the park. Topped Ireland’s tackle count.

3. Tadhg Furlong – 5

Didn’t get much change with ball in hand and even spilt possession once. Ireland had the edge at scrum time early, but Wales began to get at him before he was replaced.

4. James Ryan – 6

A typically combative outing from Ryan, smashing anything that moved and helping hold up Rhys Carré early on. Relentless in defence.

5. Tadhg Beirne – 7

Back in the engine room and back to doing what he does best. Caused problems at the Welsh lineout and worked tirelessly on both sides of the ball.

6. Jack Conan – 9

Had a try ruled out but bounced back with a huge turnover and a deserved score later on. A powerful, vintage Conan performance.

7. Nick Timoney – 8

Set the tone with a huge early hit and carried strongly throughout. His thunderous tackling became a theme.

8. Caelan Doris – 7

Busy as ever, mixing conversations with the referee with his usual relentless work-rate around the park.

9. Jamison Gibson-Park – 7

Lively early on but not without errors. Forced off for an HIA and later threw an intercepted pass on his 50th cap.

10. Jack Crowley – 7

Solid rather than spectacular, but he took his try nicely with a clever dummy. Struggled from the tee afterwards.

11. Jacob Stockdale – 7

Silenced the doubters with a well-taken early try and looked far more confident with ball in hand.

12. Stuart McCloskey – 7

Carried hard but had a costly passing error that led to Welsh points. Redeemed himself with a brilliant defensive hold-up on Carré.

13. Garry Ringrose – 6

Showed flashes with some sharp attacking lines, but mixed that with a few uncharacteristic errors.

14. Robert Baloucoune – 7

Dangerous with ball in hand and always looking to run. Defensive lapses took some shine off an otherwise lively outing.

15. Jamie Osborne – 6

Had plenty of touches but struggled to make real ground. Scored late, but overall it was a mixed evening.

Replacements:

Solid cameo off the bench and useful with ball in hand.

17. Michael Milne – 6

Helped steady the scrum as things started to wobble.

18. Thomas Clarkson – 6

A slight improvement at tighthead, though the scrum had become messy by then.

19. Joe McCarthy – 8

Brought chaos and energy, including a memorable burst up the touchline.

20. Josh van der Flier – 7

Added fresh urgency and plenty of breakdown pressure.

21. Nathan Doak – 6

Looked composed on debut after coming on during Gibson-Park’s HIA spell.

22. Tom Farrell – NA

Not on long enough to rate.

23. Ciaran Frawley – NA

Slotted in comfortably, but didn’t see enough time for a rating.
