Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has praised Jack Crowley’s impact off the bench in yesterday’s hard-fought Six Nations victory over Italy in Dublin.
Crowley replaced Sam Prendergast at 10 on the 55-minute mark and made an immediate impact, orchestrating Rob Baloucoune’s winning try before kicking a conversion and a penalty.
It’s a start contrast to Prendergast, who was arguably Ireland’s worst player on the pitch, with the Munster man now in pole position to start against England next week.
Crowley did make an error finding touch in the closing moments, but Farrell dismissed that uncharacteristic error.
“I thought Jack played outstandingly well when he came on,” Farrell said.
“So actually gutted for him, because he wouldn’t normally do that.
“I mean, there are a few things to check there as far as offside, and jumping up and down in his eye line for the kick.
“But still, it was a bit of a shank. But that wouldn’t be the overriding thought of what I take from Jack’s game.
“I thought he was outstanding when he came on.”
