Chris Ashton isn’t exactly the most loveable of characters.
The Saracens wing has built up a bit of a reputation over the years for his antics that have resulted in a lot of fans displeasure for him.
When Ashton was given a second chance by Eddie Jones at this year’s Six Nations, only for it to be taken away from him as a result of an eye-gouge on Luke Marshall, you couldn’t help but laugh. It seems Ashton’s run of bad luck however, is set to continue.
He may have just won himself a Champions Cup medal, but one things for sure- he won’t be winning any England caps this summer. Eddie Jones has chosen to leave him out of his squad for their tour of Australia this summer.
When Jones was asked about the omission, he said it was an ‘easy’ call to make.
“It wasn’t a tough call to make, it was an easy call to make. Ashton has done well, but there are parts of his game that he needs to work on,” Jones said.
“Chris has scored a lot of tries, but there’s a part of the game where you don’t have the ball. I’ve had a chat to Chris about my decision and in my eyes he’s not in the top three wings in England.”
