England coach Eddie Jones was due to meet Chris Robshaw to discuss his international future on Saturday night as two serious injuries threatened to overshadow his first official undertaking in charge of the national side.
Robshaw, who has been England captain since 2012, missed a Harlequins social event, organised by his former team-mate Ugo Monye, to meet Jones for their first face-to-face meeting.
Jones earlier attended Harlequins’ 38-7 victory over London Irish at the Stoop along with Rugby Football Union chief executive Ian Ritchie on Saturday, his first public appearance as the new England head coach since arriving in the country on Friday.
“Chris is seeing Eddie for a coffee at some stage this evening, so he probably won’t be joining the crew, at least for a while,” Conor O’Shea, the director of rugby, said.
Jones had been fiercely critical of Robshaw during the World Cup when writing a column for a national newspaper while he was head coach of Japan and the Quins flanker appears to face an uphill battle to convince him that he should remain as England captain.
