David Wallace Has His Say On Potential PRO12 Super Rugby Crossover

Reports surfaced last week that Southern and Northern Hemisphere rugby could be set to unite with PRO12 and Super Rugby chiefs in talks to launch a new tournament

While talks are still at a very early stage, SANZAR – the organisers of Super Rugby – are said to have met with officials from the Pro12 countries to discuss the prospect.

Former Munster, Lions and Ireland flanker has has his say on the potential crossover in his Irish Independent column today.

Obviously the international calendar must be fixed before any such move can take place but it would certainly be one way to gather some lost ground against the money-bags clubs in French and English rugby.

At the moment the Pro12 is struggling to compete with the Top14 and Premiership because of the players they are attracting. But anything to do with Super Rugby would go a long way to improve the product.

Super Rugby is a great brand, with the way they run things and the type of rugby that is played.

The Pro12 is constantly improving but to reach the heights of the English and French leagues they must think outside the box.

That would certainly be one way to ruffle a few feathers.

Argentina and Japan recently went that way to improve their own chances both internationally and financially as rugby brands. It hasn’t adversely affected their game, and other than logistically, the Pro12 would surely only improve from it.

Do you agree with the former Munster man?
