‘I would have voted for Gareth Bale!’
Wales outside-half Dan Biggar has admitted he would have voted for Gareth Bale after the rugby star was crowned the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year.
Biggar was unveiled as the 2015 recipient on Monday night following a public vote, with Bale not even making the top three as Olympic cyclist Geraint Thomas picked up second and world boxing champion Lee Selby was third.
That led to a social media backlash from some football fans who felt the achievements of Bale in leading Wales to Euro 2016 should have been recognised.
Biggar, who has been a revelation for Wales over the last 12 months, admitted he believes the size of the Welsh rugby public affected the decision.
“My vote would have gone to Gareth Bale,” he said.
“He is very unlucky but perhaps that shows the rugby mad country we live in.
“I feel a bit for Gareth because I think his exploits have certainly surpassed mine in getting Wales to the Euros.

In fairness, with these moves… How could he not win?
