Magic.
Santi Carreras needed his foot, one hand and a burst of pace to turn a Harlequins attack into one of the tries of the opening PREM Rugby weekend.
With Harlequins attacking and Tyrone Green looking to put Oscar Beard away, the Bath fullback was left as the last defender. An interception looked unlikely, so Carreras used his foot instead.
He volleyed Green’s pass into the air, chased it towards the touchline and plucked it back one-handed before it went out. Then he turned on the pace and ran clear to score.
The timing made it even better. Both sides had scored twice, and Quins were threatening again. One outrageous touch from Carreras turned their attack into Bath’s third try.
Bath went on to win 33-17 at the Twickenham Stoop, scoring five tries to secure a bonus point. But whatever else happens this weekend, Carreras has given everyone a moment to beat.
