Connacht announced this week that Bundee Aki had signed a new three-year deal with the province.
The Kiwi centre has been a revelation for the western province since he joined from Super Rugby side, the Chiefs. There were many reports in recent weeks linking the New Zealand born man with a host of big money offers, but he chose to stay with Connacht and put himself up for contention in Joe Schmidt’s Ireland squad from October 2017.
Aki revealed he got heaps of offers from clubs across Europe, with reports suggesting the likes of Clermont, Bordeaux and Bristol were all in the chase for his coveted signature with some huge offers on the table.
When asked why he chose to stay with Connacht, Aki gave the media a refreshingly down to earth reason,
“People chase money some times and it doesn’t work out. If you are enjoying rugby where you are why move?”
What an absolute legend and what a coup for Connacht and Ireland. Joe Schmidt has already been in contact, so look forward to seeing Aki in the green of Ireland very soon.
