Australian rugby chiefs have placed a six-figure bet on the Wallabies winning the World Cup at Twickenham on Saturday.
Australia beat Argentina 29-15 at Twickenham on Sunday to seal a place in the Rugby World Cup final against the All Blacks. Australian rugby chiefs have revealed they placed a bet through an insurance company on winning the World Cup. Michael Cheika’s rank-outsiders have not violated regulations because bet was not placed through a bookmaker.
The ARU have staked £142,000 (AUS$300,000) to cover tournament win bonuses of up to £1.5million (AUS$3.1m), according to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Michael Cheika’s side are rank-outsiders to lift the Webb Ellis Trophy, but all 31 players would earn a £47,000 (AUS$100,000) bonus if they beat tournament favourites New Zealand.
