“He’s just dumb or ridiculously confident!”
Anthony Watson recently sat down with Ugo Moyne and Chris Jones on the BBC Radio 5 Live podcast to discuss all things rugby. The Bath and England winger previewed the new season, and chatted about this summer’s Lions tour.
While on tour, Watson and Wales star Liam Williams struck up and excellent friendship, with the Englishman blown away by the fullback’s complete disregard for his money, which stemmed from his incredible confidence on the pitch.
Williams recently came out this week, stating he doesn’t like to do TV work because of his stammer, but when he gets on a rugby pitch, confidence is not an issue.
“He’s just confident in every situation.” Watson said
“I think he only weighs like 84 kilos, but he always talks about running straight into the biggest guys on the pitch and stuff like that. Either he’s just dumb or ridiculously confident!”
“But he doesn’t come across at all in a cocky kinda way. He’s very down to earth, but he’s definitely confident in his ability and will back himself in any facet of the game.”
It clearly worked for Williams, who ended up starting all three Tests, masterminding one of the greatest Lions tries of all-time in the process.
