Ronan O’Gara is planning a gala dinner to celebrate his playing career in the coming months.
The former Munster and Ireland kicker will host a testimonial night in Cork in October, it was confirmed today.
O’Gara retired in May after a long and successful career at No 10 for province, country and the Lions. He took up a coaching position with Paris outfit Racing Metro this summer, where he will work with former rival Jonny Sexton.
“As the most capped player for the Irish Rugby Football Union, O’Gara’s testimonial soiree, on 24 October is anticipated to attract a huge amount of public interest, with over 600 guests toasting the rugby legend’s outstanding career in Cork City Hall,” a statement reads.
Michael O’Flynn, who is leading the testimonial committee, adds: “The event is in Cork but we believe, given his contribution to rugby, that it will have tremendous appeal at a national level too.”
The event is a joint initiative between Cork University Hospital and Crumlin Medical and Research Foundationwith a contribution also to the Donal Walsh Foundation, organisers say.
