This will be a welcome boost to the provinces.
Brendan Fanning has reported that following a meeting of the IRFU committee, it’s been decided that each of the four provinces’s will receive an extra €500,000 this year and €500,000 next year.
Leinster returned a loss of €100k this year, while Munster recorded a massive loss of €2,000,000. Both sides along with Ulster, failed to progress out of their Champions Cup pools this season.
With increased financial muscle from French and English clubs, the money couldn’t have came at a better time. It might not seem like a lot, but it’s reassuring to see that the IRFU have both realised and acted on the problem at hand.
