Dan Carter Has His Say On The Current State Of Irish Rugby

Dan Carter has said the Irish rugby team require a core group of players to step up to the plate and guide the team over the next number of years.

Carter told Ireland Live News that Irish rugby was “in a transition phase.”

“You can’t just flick a switch and change things immediately, it takes time,” Carter said.

“They are going through a development phase but if they build a core group of players, I’m sure we’ll see the best of them in one or two years,” he added.

The All Blacks’ star fly half was speaking ahead of Ireland’s clash with Italy at the weekend, and said he thinks Ireland will hope to end the last two games of the campaign on a high note.

“Ireland are probably disappointed with their Six Nations campaign so far, so they’ll be keen to finish strongly,” he said.

“I know how proud the guys on the Irish team are, and there’s two games left, so there’s still a chance to establish their ascendancy and get a couple of good performances in, starting this weekend against Italy,” Carter added.
