French rugby magazine Midi Olympique has taken a swipe at Ireland outhalves Jonathan Sexton and Ian Madigan ahead of Ireland’s meeting with France on Saturday afternoon in the RBS 6 Nations
Under a headline which reads: ‘Two Egos for only one position’, the paper goes through the selection choice between Sexton and Madigan at both Leinster and Ireland and refers to previous selection Irish dilemmas posed by Tony Ward and Ollie Campbell in the 80s and Sexton and Ronan O’Gara in more recent times.
“Sexton, the idol of Ireland, who returned home, yesterday played as he often did during his time at Racing 92: transparent, making multiple poor decisions. Visibly, completely out of touch, he symbolises the impotence of his club,” they wrote.
Sexton is expected to be fit for the Stade de France clash this weekend after enduring another head injury in yesterday’s 16-all draw with Wales. Madigan replaced Sexton late on and will be hoping to get a chance to impress the fans of Bordeaux-Begles this weekend ahead of his big move there next season.
