Leo Cullen could be set to lose one of his top stars.
Ben Te’o’s conversion from rugby league star union centre has been hugely impressive. His emergence as a key player has been slow and steady due to injuries but is finally beginning to cement his name on the teamsheet.
With the expected arrival of Robbie Henshaw, fans have been hoping for a dynamic centre partnership between the pair.
However reports have suggested that Te’o is likely to head for the exit door at the end of this season with clubs from France and England ready to double his wages. Australia coach, Michael Cheika, is also interested in taking him back to the southern hemisphere.
At 28, he would have to wait until November 2017 according to the Irish Times before being eligible for Ireland. That seems very unlikely to happen now.
On the plus side, this would free up space for the highly promising Gary Ringrose. Ringrose and Henshaw could potentially be the new D’Arcy and O’Driscoll- for both club and country.
