Eoin Reddan and Isaac Boss aren’t getting any younger and with 22-year-old Luke McGrath the only other nine in the senior squad it’s obvious that Leinster are in the market for a new scrumhalf.

The Irish Times have reported that Leinster have identified a three man shortlist to recruit for next season. While they haven’t revealed the list we’ve decided to take a stab at some potential candidates.

Kieran Marmion: Still only 23, he has been relatively overlooked by Joe Schmidt, missing out on the World Cup squad. A move to Leinster could set him up as a firm number two to Conor Murray with Ireland.

Fumiaki Tanaka: One of the star players at this years World Cup, Tanaka is currently playing second fiddle to All Blacks scrumhalf Aaron Smith at the Highlanders.

Tomas O’Leary/Cathal Sheridan: The IRFU apparently want Madigan to move down south. Could one of Munster’s sub scrumhalves be sent to Leinster to revitalise their careers? O’Leary especially, while 32 has proven that he is up there with the very best when he hits form and realistically neither will ever displace Conor Murray who is one of the worlds best scrumhalves at the moment.

mphillips

Wildcard: Mike Phillips: A bit of a longshot. He may be 33 but Phillips is out of contract at the end of the season and has stated he will leave Racing 92. In his prime he was one of the worlds best. Can he still do the job at the highest level?

Who do you think Leinster should have on their shortlist?
