New Zealand-based Super Rugby franchise the Crusaders have confirmed the release of Irish prop Oli Jager ahead of the 2024 season.
Jager has been a mainstay in the Crusaders squad for the last number of seasons, playing a key role in their seven Super Rugby titles.
Born in London, the 28-year-old was raised in Kildare and is eligible for both England and Ireland. He has previously stated he wanted to declare for the All Blacks through residency and was picked for their ‘A’ squad.
But it now looks like he’s set to move to one of the Irish provinces and play for the country where he spent most of his life.
Crusaders coach Rob Penney confirmed Jager is leaving to pursue another playing opportunity and hinted that Ireland will indeed be his destination.
“I can’t elaborate too much.. you will put two and two together, and he will come out with a release very shortly,” Penney told Stuff.
It’s not yet known which province Jager will end up at but of all the provinces it seems Munster are most in need of a tighthead prop, with Ulster also supposedly a possible destination.
