Not over yet.
England captain Owen Farrell has been the biggest talking point in world rugby over the last few days following his latest no-arms tackle incident on Saturday against Wales.
Farrell was yellow-carded for a hit on Wales flanker Taine Basham on the hour mark that was ultimately upgraded to a red card upon review, with many expecting him to receive a ban that would see him miss a chunk of the Rugby World Cup.
But we were all stunned when it was revealed on Tuesday that in independent disciplinary committee had decided to rescind Farrell’s red card, making him free to play immediately.
Interestingly, the Summer Nations Series is owned and run by Six Nations Rugby, so we’re not done yet. Highly respected Irish rugby journalist Murray Kinsella is now reporting that World Rugby, the main governing body in the sport are now set to intervene, in a move that would be highly applauded my the majority of the rugby world.
And now we wait…
Hearing that World Rugby will appeal the Owen Farrell decision.
No word on when the new hearing might take place but presumably has to be before this weekend.
