Mr. Reliable.
Who is Joe Schmidt’s most selected player? Is it the ever-present Rob Kearney? Or perhaps captain Rory Best. Or even his star man and playmaker Johnny Sexton?
Nope, that accolade belongs to giant second-row Devin Toner. The Leinster lock has 57 caps to his name and has started 44 of the Ireland coach’s 54 games in charge to date.
After being dropped to the bench for the opening two rounds, Toner was given a chance to reclaim his jersey against Wales. He impressed, and despite British & Irish Lion Iain Henderson returning to full fitness, kept his place in the starting line-up against Scotland.
Will he be dropped in favour of the Ulsterman for the England game? Or will he retain his his spot. We’ll find out on Thursday.
