“This is not soccer.”
All Blacks legend Ma’a Nonu channeled his inner Nigel Owens this weekend during Toulon’s clash with rivals Clermont Auvergne. The bruising centre was shown a yellow card for a shoulder charge late in the first-half and Nonu was far from happy.
Nonu blasted the referee, stating ‘this is not soccer,’ and felt he was unfairly removed from the field. Toulon were leading 10-6 before Nonu went off, but Clermont quickly took advantage of the extra man, scoring a try almost immediately and eventually going on to win the game.
