Ireland Got A Kind RWC 2019 Group But Their Likely Quarter Finals Opponents Are Scary

The Rugby World Cup 2019 pool draw took place in Japan this morning.
Ireland can consider themselves lucky, having been drawn in relatively handy group in comparison to others, but head coach Joe Schmidt will be looking over his shoulder at his nearest pool neighbours.
Schmidt’s men have been drawn alongside Scotland and Japan in Pool A, but the issue is whoever qualifies from that group will face the two qualifiers from Pool B which contains holders New Zealand and South Africa.
The likelihood is New Zealand will win their group, with South Africa finishing second. Should Ireland top their group they would probably face the Sprinhboks in the quarter final, should they finish second they’ll meet the All Blacks in the last eight.
Ireland have never gotten passed the quarter finals stages in Rugby World Cup history, and face a hugely difficult task in trying to rectify that in 2019.
