Sale Sharks Complete The Signing Of International Scrumhalf

Sale Sharks haven’t waited around to replace Mike Phillips.

The former Lions and Wales scrumhalf played his final game of rugby for Sale yesterday after hanging up his boots. The English Premiership side will also be without veteran Irish scrumhalf Peter Stringer next season who was among a number of players released this week.

According to Neil Fissler of The Rugby Paper, Sale have finalised a deal for Springbok nine Faf de Klerk, despite boss Steve Diamond previously denying reports that they had agreed a deal to bring the Lions scrumhalf to England.

25 year-old De Klerk, who has 11 caps for South Africa, has fallen out of favour with Springboks coach Allister Coetzee. Because he hasn’t reached the South African international cap threshold of 30 caps, he will no longer be eligible for the national side.
