It’s safe to say Warren Gatland is a Conor Murray fan.
The Ireland and Munster nine has been in sensational form as was instrumental in his national side’s wins over the All Blacks and Australia during this year’s November international series.
The 2013 tourist is arguably the best scrumhalf in world rugby right now and favourite for the 2017 Test spot when the British & Irish Lions head to New Zealand to take on the current world champions next summer.
Speaking at yesterday’s coaching reveal, the Lions boss was seriously impressed by Murray’s performances in November, especially in Ireland’s famous win over New Zealand in Chicago.
“Conor Murray is an integral part of Ireland. He’s probably been one of the most improved players over the last two or three years.
“Back in 2013, he would probably have been the starting nine if there was another Test.
He went out there as a number three, and ended up being number one.”
Will Murray be the test nine come next summer? We certainly wouldn’t bet against it.
