Eddie Jones has revealed Mako and Billy Vunipola paid for Tonga’s celebratory drinks following their win over Italy on Saturday.
Tonga shocked the world when they beat Italy 19-17 in Padua on Saturday and while Mako and Billy were facing Argentina at Twickenham, their attention post-game shifted to the Islanders..
Though Mako and Billy play for England, their father Fe’ao captained Tonga and their mother, the Reverend Iesinga Vunipola, is a chaplain to the Tongan community in the U.K.
Billy Vunipola went off injured in the game against Argentina and Jones revealed he’s been keeping in touch with the back-row ever since.
“We’ve been having a few texts here and there,” Jones said of Billy Vunipola.
“He’s a good, young lad and he’s struggling with injury. He wants to play on Saturday and every week.
“Rugby gives him an enjoyment. They’re so pure those boys, they love rugby.
“Tonga won on the weekend and you know who funded the after-game drinks?
The Vunipola boys. They’ve got great hearts for rugby, it’s unbelievable how good hearts they have for rugby so we miss him a lot but it’s a great opportunity for Nathan to step up.”
Absolutely top class from the Vunipola brothers. Fair play lads.
