Not too long ago Toulon were arguably the greatest club side in the world – and to be fair, they won the trophies to back it up.
An unprecedented three European Cups in-a-row left the French giants almost untouchable. But that last victory back in 2015 against Clermont seems like nothing more than a distant memory now. And remains the last bit of silverware they’ve won.
Despite bringing in the likes of Julian Savea and Liam Messam this season, the French side have lost five from seven in the Top 14 this weekend and were beaten by Newcastle at home in their Champions Cup opener yesterday.
And things are about to get worse with club captain Gulhem Guirado set to leave the club at the end of the season according to a report by L’Equipe who say a deal to bring the France international to Montpellier is done.
Things are going from bad to worse in the south of France.
