Top 14 Side Refuse To Release Wallaby Star For England Clash

Will Genia has been ruled out of Australia’s clash with England this weekend due to club commitments with Stade Francais.

Coach Michael Cheika confirmed the news in a press conference this morning. According to Genia’s contract, the match is classified as an out-of-window Test so there is no obligation for the Top 14 side to release him.

The loss of the 74-test veteran will be seen as a massive blow to Cheika’s side as he has been in fine form during Australia’s European tour. The coach however admitted that they are the rules, and there’s nothing they can do.

“Right now, from the conversations we’ve had with Paris, they’re not releasing him,

“We’ll have another crack and see what we can do, but it seems unlikely with the French, they obviously place more importance on their game for Will than our international.

“That’s the way the rules are, so we’ll just have to deal with it.

“We asked last night after the game and that was the response they came back with.”

The Wallabies are also likely to be without the services of flanker Dean Mumm, who will appear before the judiciary following a citing for a dangerous tackle against Irish prop Tadhg Furlong.
