Springbok Pat Lambie Granted Release To Move To Europe
Pat Lambie is packing his bags and heading to France.
The Springboks playmaker has reportedly been granted an early release from his South African Rugby Union (SARU) contract according to Independent Online.
A press release is expected from both the Sharks and the Springboks at some stage today or tomorrow, confirming that they have granted the 26-year-old’s request to restart his career at French giants Racing 92.
Racing claimed months ago that he had signed a three-year deal, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. It’s still unclear whether Lambie is seen as a replacement for fellow South African Johan Goosen who infamously retired last season, or a long-term replacement for Dan Carter, who’s contract is up at the end of the season.
Lambie will still be free to play for the Springboks, having reached the minimum requirement of 30 caps in order to be available for overseas selection.
