15-times capped Welsh prop Craig Mitchell’s move to Bath is in tatters after the former Cardiff Blues man picked up a devastating shoulder injury in pre-season.
Mitchell was on the book with the Dragons last season but was picked up on trial by Bath as cover for injured tightheads Henry Thomas and Max Lahiff. The Welshman however, suffered a serious dislocated shoulder injury in training that’s set to sideline him for six months.
As a result he will not receive a contract offer from the Premiership side, but they have vowed to pay him because the injury happened on their watch.
“We got Craig on trial, basically, and he’s done his shoulder,” Blackadder told the Bath Chronicle.
“We were going to see what he was like and make a decision. Because he’s dislocated his shoulder on our watch we’ll look after him.
“We think that’s the right thing to do. It could be a six-month injury.”
