People In Ireland Will Love CJ Stander Even More After These Touching Words

What an absolute legend.

CJ Stander left South Africa just over fours years having been told he wasn’t ‘big’ enough to make it on the international scene as Springbok despite captaining their U-20 side. His destination was Limerick and his club was Munster.

Stander struggled initially, falling out of favour under then head coach Rob Penney, but was finally given his chance by the late Anthony Foley and boy did he take it. Stander flourished in the number eight role made famous at Munster by Foley himself and all that hard work was rewarded when he was called up to the Irish national team at this year’s RBS Six Nations, after qualifying through the residency rule.

This past summer was an emotional moment for Stander. He returned to his native South Africa, as a test international, with Ireland. A special documentary aired last night documenting that trip and Stander explained that through it all, Ireland, specifically Limerick, is now his home.

Home is where the heart is. For me, that’s Limerick. Everything that I own or I have, that I love is there.

Check it out in the clip below. What a man.
