Nigel Owens Reveals The Best Game He Has Ever Refereed

Nigel Owens has taken charge of some pretty big games.

The former World Rugby Referee of the Year took charge of the most recent Rugby World Cup final back in 2015, and has also overseen numerous European and domestic finals.

The Welshman has been the man in the middle for 76 Test games including 3 Rugby World Cups and numerous Rugby Championship and Six Nations affairs.

Owens did a brilliant Q&A for WaleOnline this week with the public putting some excellent questions to him. One of our favourite was what’s the best game he has ever refereed to which Owens replied:

It was at Ellis Park 2013. Four weeks after that I reffed Ireland v New Zealand in Dublin which was the second best. The South Africa game was brilliant. They needed to win with a bonus point to take the Rugby Championship. NZ needed a losing bonus point so they both had everything to play for. That’s what convinced me the bonus point system can make a difference….though it didn’t really do that in the Six Nations this year.

A cracking choice.
