Nigel Owens Is Taking A Bit Of A Step Down For His Next Game

From Rugby World Cup final referee to officiating a game between two villages in Wales, Nigel Owens will have experienced two very differing rugby worlds in the space of a week.

The Welsh referee will return to Wales next weekend to referee a game between Gowerton and Crymych in Swalec League Division One West having just last Saturday kept order in a classic between Australia and New Zealand in the biggest rugby game this planet has to offer.

While the basics still apply, this match will represent a slightly different change of scenery to what the 44-year-old became accustomed to at the Rugby World Cup.

Instead of trying to get his point across inside Twickenham with 80,000 people screaming at the pitch, a somewhat more subdued atmosphere will greet one of the world’s greatest referees during Saturday’s game in Gowerton, Swansea – ‘where the average attendance is 150′, according to the BBC.

However, no spectacle small or large will dampen the spirits of Owens after refereeing his first ever World Cup final, in which New Zealand went on to beat Australia 34-17.
