Leinster Set To Make Huge Surprise Selection Call For Champions Cup Final

Big call.

Leinster are set to leave James Lowe out of their matchday squad for this weekend’s Champions Cup final clash with French giants Racing 92 in Bilbao, despite the return of Luke McGrath.

With Fergus McFadden out, and McGrath passed fit, it was expected that Lowe would start on one wing with Isa Nacewa on the other. But The Irish Times are reporting that Cullen will instead go youngster Jordan Larmour, with Jamison Gibson-Park set to earn a spot on the bench.

The reason however, is nothing to do with Lowe, but rather concerns over McGrath. Leinster feel the scrumhalf may not be able to last the full 80 minutes, and would rather have Gibson-Park’s experience on the bench.

Rory O’Loughlin is also expected to be named among the replacements while a decision will be taken on Rhys Ruddock will be taken after training on Thursday. The report states Ross Molony will be among the replacements if Ruddock cannot prove his fitness.

Expected Leinster team:

R Kearney; J Larmour, G Ringrose, R Henshaw, I Nacewa (capt); J Sexton, L McGrath; C Healy, S Cronin, T Furlong; D Toner, J Ryan; S Fardy, D Leavy, J Murphy.

Replacements: J Tracy, J McGrath, A Porter, R Molony/R Ruddock, J Conan, J Gibson-Park, J Carbery, R O’Loughlin.
