Jake White believes he could win England the Rugby World Cup, but the RFU will have to court him.
Meanwhile, former Australia and Japan coach Eddie Jones ruled himself out of the running to be England coach, as did former New Zealand coach Wayne Smith.
White, the English bookmakers’ favourite to replace Stuart Lancaster, who resigned this week, says he won’t be applying for the vacant position because he’s done it the last two times and “nothing has changed since then for me.”
“I am who I am, and I have coached who I have coached,” he said after his Montpellier club lost in the European Challenge Cup late on Thursday (Friday NZ Time). “My CV stands itself.”
White said he hasn’t been approached by the English Rugby Football Union, but insisted they will have to chase the 2007 World Cup winner after he applied for and lost the job to Martin Johnson in 2008 and Lancaster in 2011. He also lost out to Rob Andrew as RFU rugby director in 2011.
“Since I finished with the Springboks (in 2007), I have always made it clear I have a burning desire to win another World Cup,” White said. “I can win the World Cup for England.
“I would never be saying that I was keen on the job if I did not believe I could do it.”
