Connacht look set to be without versatile kiwi star Stacey Ili for up to six weeks.

The versatile New Zealand back partnered Bundee Aki in midfield in the western province’s 32-17 loss to Wasps at the Richoh Arena nine days ago, but limped off after 38 minutes with an ankle injury.

Connacht issued an injury update this afternoon to confirm the news, which will come as a blow to Pat Lam as they continue their busy festive period. There was some positive news today however, as Jake Heenan, who was also injured in that game, is expected to return for the New Year’s Eve clash with Munster.

Heenan lasted 45 minutes in Coventry before ankle and knee injuries forced him out. The former New Zealand U20 international will miss this Friday’s Guinness Pro12 game against Ulster at Kingspan Stadium, but they are hopeful that he will be available for the clash with Munster at the Sportsground.

Two players awaiting further updates on their injury problems are props Conor Carey and Dominic Robertson-McCoy. Both men have undergone scans to determine the extent of their injures.
